Chives have a mild onion flavour in both the leaves and the edible flowers. It is one of the most popular herbs both in the kitchen and garden. This herb grows pretty pink to purple flower heads which are great in a herb garden or used as a edging plant. Perfect for pollinators. Cut leaves about 2cm from ground level. It grows to a height of about 25cm (10″) and spreads around 20cm. Chive can be added to salads, cooked dishes or potato salads to add a mild onion flavoured edge.
Chives are perennial, so they wil come back year after year. They tend to die back in winter and regrown in spring, creating a larger shrub over time.
